In Germany, these self-controlled model cars are very famous. They are called Faller Car System or Infracar or Digital Controlled Car System or simply DC Car. Normally, these cars are made for model railroad layouts in HO scale. But these model cars are built in N Scale (1:160) or N Gauge. These model cars are an enrichment or asset to any model train layout.

A battery, headlights and the entire (digital) control system is installed into the model car. And, a metal strip is installed invisible beneath the road. The metal strip dictates the possible ways. But the model car is driving autonomous; there is no radio remote control.
