Private HO Scale Model Railroad Layout of CFL Trains in Luxembourg

At the famous model railway exhibition “On TraXS 2024”, Alain Kap presented his model train layout containing a true to scale replica of Useldange railway station in Luxembourg. The small miniature world in 1/87 scale follows the philosophy of many model railroaders and railway modellers, namely to rebuilt long-gone railroad lines.

In the 19th century, the railway line along the municipality of Useldange was originally built for the transportation of iron ore and coal between Luxembourg and Germany. Already at that time, rail traffic was dominated by freight trains. Passenger traffic played a subordinate role. After the Second World War, the main line was downgraded to a branch line. While passenger trains were discontinued in September 1967, the remaining freight traffic was abandoned in May 1969.

After almost two years of construction, Alain Kap has completed his model rail layout depicting the atmosphere in the 1960s. The HO scale layout consists of three segments with a total length of 2.70 meters. Alain Kap used old construction plans and historical photos to design his model railway layout. In particular, the historical plans from the archives of the Luxembourg railroad company CFL (“Société Nationale des Chemins de Fer Luxembourgeois”) ensured that he was able to rebuilt as realistically as possible the station building, the goods shed and the toilet block with three striking chimneys.
